“Not without my family!” declared Arist Dethleffs when he constructed Germany's first "Wohnauto" in 1931. Few people knew the word "leisure" before then; family holidays were a privilege and tourism was still in its infancy. A new era began with the invention of the caravan.
Comfortable camping trips, adventures out there in nature, encounters with foreign countries and other cultures are what revolutionised the cultural history of travel. The pioneering spirit of the company founder, Arist Dethleffs, can still be felt today. It can be found in the continuous series development, in countless innovations and, of course, at the heart of camping history: the family.
Given its unique positioning as a “friend of the family” and its market-driven products, the company Dethleffs GmbH & Co. KG has ridden a wave of success for years, making the traditional company based in the Allgäu region one of the largest motorhome manufacturers in Europe. With its near 800 employees, the manufacturer from Isny produces up to 10,000 leisure vehicles annually.
