Wegebeschaffenheit
This classic round trip starting in Biberach an der Riß takes you to Upper Swabia’s most impressive highlights—culture, nature, and panoramic views all in one day.
The first stop is the pilgrimage church in Steinhausen, often called “the most beautiful village church in the world.” Its light-filled Baroque interior and masterful frescoes make it an architectural gem of the region.
The tour continues to Federsee. A walk along the Federsee boardwalk is a must. It leads right through the unique moorland—vast horizons, rare bird species, and an impressive silence define the experience. A detour to the nearby Wackelwald (also accessible from the parking lot) is also worthwhile, where the springy moorland soil makes a special natural phenomenon palpable.
The crowning finale is the Bussen, the “Holy Mountain of Upper Swabia.” The final stretch is covered on foot—at the top, visitors are greeted by the pilgrimage church of St. John the Baptist and a sweeping view of the countryside. On a clear day, an impressive Alpine panorama unfolds.
