The southern route of the Upper Swabian Baroque Route almost once circles Lake Constance, which is a popular destination for visitors to Upper Swabia-Allgaeu. Great views as well as fascinating art and cultural treasures from the baroque era await you!
The southern route of the Upper Swabian Baroque Route begins in Meersburg, where you can directly visit one of the most original baroque buildings, the Meersburg New Palace. From there it goes on to the island of flowers - Mainau Island, which impresses all year round with its fantastic gardens, the Butterfly House and the baroque palace complex. From Mainau Island, it is worth making a detour to Hilzingen, where the church of St. Peter and Paul stands, a unique gem to baroque village churches.
From there, the tour continues along the Swiss side of the lake to Trogen. There the century of the Zellweger can be experienced in many different ways and the church opens up a world of impressive rococo stucco and paintings. Through the Austrian Vorarlberg it goes back to the German side of the lake, where Langenargen with the castle Montfort and the baroque church St. Martin completes the route.
If you feel like more baroque culture after this tour, you can start from Langenargen to the main route of the Upper Swabian Baroque Route.
